STACY PERALTA

STACY PERALTA : Biographie

Born in 1957, in Venice, California, Stacy Peralta started surfing and skateboarding very early.

From the age of 15, he is a local celebrity and he participates in competitions with his comrades from the Z-Boys, the local Surfshop team. Alongside the pioneers Tony Alva or Jay Adams, he created new figures by taking possession of the city's empty swimming pools: the first Pool parties were born.

Thanks to his successes, he became one of the most successful skateboarders of the time and contributed to introducing skateboarding to its first great revolution, the one that would bring it worldwide recognition.

In 1977, Stacy Peralta is already a star. He appears in ads for Pepsi and you can even see his face in an episode of the hit series Charlie's Angels.

But the career of Stacy Peralta will take on a whole new stature from 1978 and its association with Georges Powell, with whom he will create one of the most famous skate brands of all time: POWELL-PERALTA. Together, they will get their hands on the skate market and will not let it go for a decade.

Abandoning his sponsor Gordon & Smith, he became the brand's media figure and contributed to its immediate success.

It was under the leadership of Powell-Peralta, and her Bones wheel brand, that Stacy Peralta formed the Bones Brigade skate team, destined to become the legendary skateboarding team and a real springboard for talented young skaters.

At his side, the greatest will revolutionize skateboarding once again and boys like Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen or Steve Caballero will make themselves known to the whole world.

It was also with the Bones Brigade that Stacy's second life began with the making of some of the most famous skateboard films in the industry, such as Propaganda (1990) or the famous Dogtown and Z-Boys (2001). Subsequently, on the strength of his experience, he will continue to direct and produce numerous films, documentaries and series.

With Tony Alva, Stacy Peralta belongs to a very particular category of Legends of Skateboarding: that of the pioneers.

He is one of those who took Skateboarding out of anonymity to make it a world-renowned discipline. He participated in developing the sport, by creating tricks, developing adapted equipment, winning competitions but also and above all by helping the youngest to realize themselves and become the great skaters of tomorrow. Stacy Peralta is the father of modern skateboarding, without whom the legends of the 80s would probably never have existed.

PART OF THE LEGEND

Bones Brigade

The first Bones Brigade

When Powell-Peralta, a newly created brand, decides to set up a team of pro skaters, Stacy takes over recruiting and starts looking for very specific skaters.

If the objective is to found a shock team to promote Powell's innovative products, it is above all for Stacy a way of giving skateboarding the image he wishes to see it take on for years to come.

As a visionary, he sees skateboarding slowly turning towards the street and composes an eclectic cast of talented young skaters. He surrounds himself with boys still little known, capable of prowess in freestyle as well as in the ramp.

The Bones Brigade's first video, "The Bones Brigade Video Show" (1984) features all of the major skateboarding stars from 1985 to 2000: Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Rodney Mullen, Lance Mountain, Mike McGill and Per Welinder.

Stacy Peralta will offer with her Brigade a new gift to the Skateboard. By filming his youngsters like no one has ever filmed skateboarding before him, he will give it a new image. An image so powerful that it will go around the world.

After having democratized skateboarding in the 70s, Stacy Peralta adds a line to her legend by contributing to her explosion of the 80s. Founder!

Z-boys

Z-Boys of Dogtown

Prior to creating the Bones Brigade, Stacy was a member of another legendary skateboarding team: the Z-Boys.

Founded in the 70s to promote the surf shop Jeff Ho Surfboards and Zephyr Productions, those who are quickly nicknamed the Z-Boys were originally 12 surfers / skaters from the Santa Monica and Venice area.

Together, they will change the world of skateboarding by using the Pools to create a new hyper aerial style inspired by Surf.

With the Z-Boys, skateboarders Tony Alva, Stacy Peralta, Allen Sarlo or Jay Adams will slowly abandon Surfing to devote themselves solely to skateboarding and participate in all existing competitions from 1975.

They will thus influence a whole generation of new skaters and contribute to popularize this still marginal practice thanks to their appearances in magazines.

In 1977, faced with the growing success of skateboarding, many brands set up and skaters left for new horizons, ending the short adventure of the Z-Boys.

While the Team's existence was brief, its impact on skateboarding in general is enormous, and the Boyz of Dogtown sparked the first spark that would cause skateboarding to explode.
